1350 Distilling was awarded a Gold Medal from The John Barleycorn Society for our Fleet Admirals’ Barrel Aged Rum in the “Rum - Aged Under Five Years” category this week.
“This spirit is dedicated to the only four men who have ever held the highest rank in the United States Navy: Leahy, King, Nimitz and Halsey,” claims Phill Bragg, Co-Founder, President, and Head Distiller of 1350 Distilling, “It is made from Louisiana molasses, distilled in our one-of-a-kind “Rocket Still” and aged in our used award-winning bourbon barrels for a minimum of six months.”
The John Barleycorn Awards is a different kind of awards program, created by writers and marketers to honor creative excellence in all aspects of the spirits industry - from formulating and distilling products - through innovative imaging, promotion, and sale of the products.
Each Taste entry was blind-tasted and scored on a 100-point scale for appearance, aroma, taste, and finish. Awards were determined based on points. A complete list of winners and comments from judges can be found at www.barleycornawards.com.
The Taste judging is under the leadership of noted author and spirits writer John McCarthy who oversees some of the world's top spirits writers, as well as runs the BarleycornDrinks blog. Judges include Leslie Sbrocco, Fred Minnick, Clay Risen, Jennifer Simonetti-Bryan, Robin Robinson, Wayne Curtis, Frank Caiafa, G. Clay Whittaker, Tony Sachs, Brad Japhe, Rachel DelRocco Terrazas, Amanda Schuster, Lou Bank, Zach Johnston, Emma Janzen, and Susan Reigler.
This award marks the 11th medal to be added to 1350 Distilling’s growing trophy cabinet and the fourth gold medal recognizing their handcrafted spirits. Every #1350Spirit has now been awarded at least a Silver Medal in various tasting events throughout the nation.
2023 has been a stellar medal year for 1350 Distilling, receiving all Golds including a Double Gold for our Code Four 115 Proof Cask Strength Straight Bourbon Whiskey and a Gold for our Guardian Bourbon.
